APK
An APK is the file format used for Android/Fire OS apps such as Amazon Signage.
CMS partners submit an APK to the Amazon Appstore, and we vet it and then pass it to QA/Eng.

Company/Organization
In the Signage Mobile App, a company/organization is a group of users that have access to the same devices, their statuses, and their virtual remotes. By adding users to your company/organization, you can allow multiple mobile app users to manage your devices.

Users in the same company/organization share the same locations, profiles, and devices. If one user adds, modifies, or deletes a new location, profile, or device, the change will reflect in the mobile apps of all users in that company/organization.

CMS
A Content Management System, or CMS, is a software that provides a user-friendly interface to create, manage, modify, and publish digital content. CMSs are valuable tools for managing signage displays.

DRM
The Digital Rights Management is a technology used by the Amazon app store to control access to digital content. In the Amazon Signage ecosystem, DRM should be disabled because DRM-protected apps try to validate licenses online and fail on Amazon Signage devices.

DSN
The DSN, or device serial number, is a string of characters unique to each device. You can use the DSN to identify specific devices in the mobile app and the Signage Manager Portal.

EDID
The Extended Display Identification Data is a communication standard used by a display (TV/monitor) to tell the Amazon Signage Stick:
* Its resolution capabilities
* Supported refresh rates
* Audio capabilities
* And other technical details

Kiosk Mode
Kiosk Mode ensures the Amazon Signage device always stays in your CMS app. The device boots directly into your signage application and prevents users from exiting to the Fire TV interface or system settings. No configuration is needed—this is built into the Signage OS.

Location
Locations are a way of organizing your Signage devices into groups, which can be useful as your devices increase in number. For example, you might organize your devices by function, department or campus.

Locations are simply tags-adding, removing, deleting, or renaming will not impact the Signage devices' configuration or screen content displayed.

Devices that you don't provide with locations will be designated as having a location of "Unassigned." The "Unassigned" location is a default setting that cannot be deleted or modified.

OOBE
The Out-Of-Box Experience refers to the initial setup flow you see when the Amazon Signage device is brand-new or factory-reset. For Amazon Signage, OOBE includes connecting to Wi-Fi, downloading the CMS app, and registering the device.

OTA
OTA stands for Over-The-Air updates.
Your CMS app and device software are updated remotely by Amazon without any physical access required. OTA updates apply automatically once your CMS app is “OTA-ready.”

Profile
Profiles can save time when adding new devices by storing network credentials and CMS selection. This can be helpful when repeatedly deploying multiple devices across your organization.

When adding a new device, you'll be given the option to save settings as a profile. The next time through, you can apply the profile instead of manually entering Wi-Fi and CMS settings. Profiles can also be modified and deleted.

Reset
Resetting your device will reset it back to factory defaults. The device will be disconnected from the mobile app and any other connected remotes, and you will be able to set it up again like a brand-new device.

Restart
Restarting your device will reboot the operating system, which can be useful to try if you're experiencing technical difficulties.

SSID
The Service Set Identifier is the name of a Wi-Fi network. During device setup, the Amazon Signage device needs to detect and connect to the correct SSID.

User
Admin User:
The admin user of a company/organization has the ability to add and remove users from the company/organization, in addition to adding, modifying, and deleting locations, profiles, and devices. Each company/organization only has one admin user, who cannot be changed.

If you sign in to the Signage Mobile App with an Amazon account that has not been added to a pre-existing company/organization, you will automatically be added to a new company/organization with you as the admin user.

Regular User:
A regular user is a member of a company/organization who can add, modify, and delete locations, profiles, and devices. To become a regular user of a company/organization, your Amazon account must be added by the admin user before you first log in to the app.

Virtual Remote
Once a Amazon Signage device is set up, the virtual remote behaves the same way a physical remote does. You can launch the Signage device's operating system settings menu, restart, or factory reset the Signage device.
